Description
The Sacrament of the Present Moment is the three hundred-year-old classic of spiritual guidance and enlightenment by Jean-Pierre de Caussade, ordained member of the Society of Jesus. In this wise, hopeful, and powerfully stirring masterwork of Christian thought and daily practice, de Caussade encourages a selfless abandonment to God as a means of achieving grace and conquering pride and ego. Each day is a sacrament, the author assures us, and the lessons and wisdom of The Sacrament of the Present Moment can better enable us to hear God’s voice as He speaks to us, always, with love. - from Amzon

Jean-Pierre Caussade shows how God speaks to us through every moment of the day. He promotes a joyous, affirming, selfless abandonment to God. He takes the moments of our days and the simple duties that make up these moments and gives them sacramental significance. Christ comes to us in a new and living way each day and in each moment.
The book could be used in a group to express the importance of being attentive to the God within by emphasizing the fourth guideline of centering prayer (spend a few minutes in silence after the prayer so that we can bring the quiet into our day). This book can help us to be aware of the presence of God throughout our day as well as encouraging us to be in communion with God. The group members could read a chapter each week and identify the phrases or quotes that speak to them. They could deepen the experience by praying with those sections. At the prayer group meeting, members could share the parts of the chapter that spoke to them and how they carried them through the day.
de Caussade also wrote Self Abandonment to Divine Providence, which describes how to be present to God and how He is with us at each moment.
This book may be too advanced for beginners in the practice. It may not resonate to all people.
